15 CLERKS CITED IN SALE OF TOBACCO TO MINORS
State Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement agents cited 15 store
clerks in Wake and Durham counties for selling tobacco products
to minors, the agency said Thursday.
Nearly a dozen ALE agents fanned out across the two counties
last month to monitor the sale of tobacco products at 100
stores, the ALE reported. Selling tobacco to an underage person
is a Class II misdemeanor. A store clerk can be fined up to
$1,000 or ordered to perform up to 30 days of community service
if convicted.
