EXCLUSIVE: CIG BROTHER
PUB toilets are to be fitted with hyper-sensitive alarms to catch drinkers having a sneaky cigarette when the nationwide smoking ban comes into force next year.
The £100 detectors are similar to the ones fitted in airplanes and will go off automatically at the faintest whiff of smoke.
But they won't just alert the landlord. A pre-programmed message will tell the smoker: "This is a no-- smoking area, please extinguish your cigarette, a member of staff has been contacted."
And what's more... to make sure culprits get the message it will be delivered in the local accent.
The initiative is designed to stop smokers who try to light up after the ban on smoking in public places comes into force in Wales in April and England in July.
