HALF AN HOUR PER WORKING DAY UP IN SMOKE
SMOKERS each lose an average of 30 minutes a day from their
workplaces to satisfy their habit, a new report has revealed.
The average smoker takes at least three breaks from the office,
each lasting about ten minutes, research for the Benenden
Healthcare Society found.
And hundreds of thousands of workers take cigarette breaks that
add up to more than half an hour a day - often leaving the
office seven times to smoke, said the report.
Overall, the healthcare group estimates that 290,000 working
days are being lost by people leaving their office to smoke.
As the first anniversary of Scotland's ban on smoking approaches
(March 26) the survey has sparked renewed controversy.
