INDOOR SMOKING BAN GOING STATEWIDE
Since Springfield enacted its smoking ban last fall, the Riverton
East End Tavern has seen an influx of visitors, said bartender
Melba Scroggins.
That business has remained steady for the bar and restaurant,
which opened last summer. In fact, Scroggins can count on one
hand the number of non-smoking patrons she sees night after
night.
"This is a bar. When people come in, they want to relax, drink
and smoke," she said.
No more, with Gov. Rod Blagojevich signing legislation Monday to
enact a statewide smoking ban.
"It's going to hurt us. It's just going to kill us," Scroggins
said.
