LABOUR LIKES SMOKE-FREE WORKPLACES
Health Minister Dave Hancock's initiative to ban smoking in
public places is winning a wide band of support ranging from
labour to business groups.
But his Conservative colleague's pitch to limit cigarette
vending to liquor stores is mostly raising eyebrows.
Premier Ed Stelmach confirmed Friday that Hancock's plan, which
also includes prohibiting visible retail displays and removing
cigarettes from pharmacies, had passed through the Tory-only
policy committee, and is making its way to private debates in
cabinet and caucus.
But he expressed no personal opinion on a controversial topic
that has bitterly divided his Conservative benches in the past,
and is likely to do so again.
