LANDLORDS REMINDED OF SMOKING CLAUSE
Smokers should read the fine print before signing or renewing an
apartment lease this year.
With the Saturday deadline to renew leases for July 1 occupancy,
a Quebec landlords group is reminding members to spell out in the
lease whether tenants can smoke in their apartments.
The provincial rental board says landlords can include a
no-smoking clause in a lease, said Hans Brouillette,
spokesperson for the Corporation des proprietaires immobiliers
du Quebec.
"Most landlords didn't even know they had that right,"
Brouillette said.
