MEDIA ADVISORY - SUPREME COURT OF CANADA TO HEAR CRUCIAL TOBACCO CASE
The Canadian Cancer Society will join the federal
government and six provinces before the Supreme Court of Canada
on Monday,
February 19. The Society and the governments will argue in
support of the
constitutional validity of federal legislation restricting
tobacco
advertising, banning tobacco sponsorship, and requiring large
warnings on
cigarette packages. The legislation is being challenged by the
three major
tobacco manufacturers.
