RJR Involved In Arizona Smoking Ban Fight
MESA, Ariz. -- A North Carolina cigarette maker is trying to roll back a statewide smoking ban in Arizona.
R.J. Reynolds gave $10,000 toward placing an initiative on the November ballot. A Phoenix bar owner is also behind that effort.
The rollback initiative would allow smoking in all bars and some restaurants statewide, overturning smoking bans in cities including Tempe and Prescott.
The possible unraveling is the work of a group called the Non-Smoker Protection Committee. It wants a uniform state smoking law, with restrictions applied across the board and cities prohibited from passing strict bans.
