VIOLATIONS FEW UNDER SMOKING BAN
No citations have been issued since the Independence Clean Air
Act went into effect last month.
According to Larry Jones, Independence Health Department
director, the department has received 12 complaints about indoor
smoking since the ban March 17. Voters approved the ordinance,
which bans smoking in all indoor workplaces, last November.
Three restaurant/bars, four offices, one grocery store and four
private clubs have been reported for violations. Jones said two
of the complaints - one involving a restaurant and one involving
a private club - are being investigated. Both have been the
subject of more than one complaint.
