WATSONVILLE BANS TOBACCO FROM PARKS
The City Council, on a 4-3 vote Tuesday, approved a ban on the
smoking of cigarettes, cigars and pipes at the city's 24 parks
and at all city-sponsored events.
Vice Mayor Kimberly Petersen, voting in the majority, said the
ban doesn't prevent smokers from lighting up or from using
parks, just not doing the two things together.
"If you've ever been running past where a smoker is smoking, you
feel it immediately," she said. "In the long run, [the ban] will
have a positive effect on our community"
