As a cigarette brand Lucky Strike was introduced in 1916, by R.A. Patterson in Richmond. Heretofore, the brand was specialized in cut-plug chewing tobacco. There was a superstition that Lucky Strike cigarettes bring success to the person that smokes them. It was a whole ritual of how to brink and how to take the Lucky Strike' cigarettes from the pack.
In 1917, the brand started using the slogan "It's Toasted" to inform smokers about the manufacturing method in which the tobacco is toasted rather than sun-dried. Thanks to their special manufacturing methods, Lucky Strike cigarettes have unique and distinctive flavor. The message "L.S.M.F.T." - (Lucky Strike means fine tobacco) was introduced on the package in the same year.
The first packages of Lucky Strike cigarettes had dark green color. In 1942, the pack was changed from green to white. Using the famous slogan "Lucky Strike Green has gone to war," the company informed that the change was made because the copper and chromium used in the green color were needed for World War II.
